Donald Trump and the Samson Anointing
Isn’t it funny how God uses people we would never choose? He anointed Cyrus and raised up pharaoh. Would you have picked David, Solomon or Peter? When I asked the Holy Spirit why God allowed a flawed Donald Trump to play such a significant role in the United States, the Holy Spirit said, “He walks in the character and anointing of Samson.”
But indeed for this purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth
– Exodus 9:16
If you’re unfamiliar with Samson in Judges chapters 13-16, he was a fighter, one anointed by God to defeat formidable enemies of the Lord, but he also had a quick temper, rambunctious words and he nourished revenge. Samson was called to help God’s people during a terrible time. He was anointed to fight a battle so great, that only a few could withstand the struggle. He was a fighter by nature who thrived on conflict.
Trump confronts the sneering elite that label millions of struggling Americans as deplorable bigots
Donald Trump values his mother’s heritage and the spiritual legacy given to him by her. Trump’s mother, Mary Anne MacLeod was born in the village of Tong, on the Isle of Lewis, Scotland. This was an area flooded by the Holy Spirit and transformed by God’s abiding presence in revival power.
So the woman bore a son and called his name Samson; and the child grew, and the Lord blessed him. And the Spirit of the Lord began to move upon him at Mahaneh Dan between Zorah and Eshtaol
– Judges 13:24-25
Samson is the unconventionally called. He’s the hero Israel deserved, but not the one they wanted. No one invited Samson to a dinner party if they planned a dull evening. But when the Philistines came to destroy Israel, all of God’s people cried to Samson and his warrior-anointing to deliver them.
So Samson went down to Timnah with his father and mother, and came to the vineyards of Timnah. Now to his surprise, a young lion came roaring against him. And the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon him, and he tore the lion apart as one would have torn apart a young goat, though he had nothing in his hand. But he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done
– Judges 14:5-6
The same Samson anointing rested upon another unlikely Christian hero, Winston Churchill, who was chosen by God against all odds, to resist the purposes of Adolf Hitler. People forget Churchill was branded ‘a warmonger’ and the ‘antithesis’ of what they call political correctness. He was an unlikely Christian hero, having said, “I could hardly be called a pillar of the Church, I am more in the nature of a buttress, for I support it from the outside.” Those who seek a post-Christian world of Communism still deface his statue in Parliament Square, England. But Trump respects the man who was used by God to save Western civilisation.
The Lord never gives up. He’ll raise up people to serve His purposes from unusual places
Samson consistently defeated the enemies of Israel, but he was flawed and betrayed. The people who needed God’s unusual warrior to save them from their enemies turned against him. They became so focused on the hurtful words and actions of Samson, that they forgot a determined enemy of freedom was there.
Which is worse, angry tweets or promoting a culture of sexualising and mutilating children?
When Samson was betrayed and silenced, his enemies thought he was defeated and disgraced, but his greatest victory was ahead. The Lord never gives up on those He has chosen. Trump is not finished.
Then Samson called to the Lord, saying, “O Lord God, remember me, I pray! Strengthen me, I pray, just this once, O God, that I may with one blow take vengeance on the Philistines for my two eyes!”
And Samson took hold of the two middle pillars which supported the temple, and he braced himself against them, one on his right and the other on his left.
Then Samson said, “Let me die with the Philistines!” And he pushed with all his might, and the temple fell on the lords and all the people who were in it. So the dead that he killed at his death were more than he had killed in his life
– Judges 16:28-30
Will President Trump return to the White House in 2024? It’s a fundamental error to believe that God’s purposes for Trump reflect the approval of his character. Samson, David, Solomon, Peter and Paul were flawed. They were all ‘trouble makers’ disturbing the slumber of God’s people, who could have lost all God planned for them. I asked the Holy Spirit if Donald Trump would become the 47th President of the United States and the Lord was silent on the issue, but He said:
“Don’t put your trust in Donald Trump. He can’t save America, only Jesus can; but Trump is an instrument I am using.”

Resist the Coming Antichrist!
For the last eight years, I have been writing a book called The End Times, the Book of Revelation. Two things became clear to me as I sought God: First, the Antichrist will rise to power because of an unprecedented series of crises. Second, his coming can be restrained for a season by the Church living in Holy Spirit revival power.
