Why Believing in God Makes Sense
Believing in God is not blind faith. We believe because Christ revealed Himself to us and sent His Holy Spirit to fill us with His power. The experience of meeting with God changes us and makes arguments futile. However, it’s logical to believe in God.
We see God in nature. Design demands a Designer. Think about the vastness of the universe, or the law and order within an atom. The beauty of nature and the variety of species causes us to look for a Creator. Logically, it’s not facetious to ask has anyone dug up a 5,000 year old sports car, rocket or a pen? They exist because of human intelligence and fine-tuning. By expert scientific standards, human existence is improbable. Only the fine-tuning of the universe makes life possible. Any small fluctuation in the universe, from the force of gravity to the ratio of electrons to protons would deem life impossible.
For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse
– Romans 1:20
We have a conscience that drives us to seek right from wrong. In the evolutionary theory of survival of the fittest, morality hinders survival. The truth is humans possess an internal sense of moral obligation to find and do the right thing. This is a gift from God. Many choose to deny self or sacrifice their lives to save others. This is God’s giving nature manifest in His creation.
For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do the things in the law, these, although not having the law, are a law to themselves, who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them
– Romans 2:14-15
We desire eternal life. Humans are drawn to something more than life. We hope and believe there is more. This is why the life of Jesus Christ is important. When we read the Gospels, we find someone vastly different from all others. His words are astonishing; His perspective unique. This is because He was more than a man. He was God present on earth.
Jesus said, “For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me”
– John 6:38
Mankind strives for meaning and purpose. If there is no God, our lives are meaningless. Everything we live and die for will all be forgotten, unless there is more to life, than this life. We all have a large void in our lives that can only be filled by having an experience with God.
Jesus said, “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water”
– John 7:38
The Bible is a unique book that has hundreds of fulfilled prophecies. Jesus Himself fulfilled over three hundred prophecies. Only a supernatural Mind can foretell such events. Holy Scripture accurately foretold many detailed events in advance. Did you know the Prophet Daniel proclaimed the Messiah, Jesus Christ, would begin His public ministry 483 years after the decree was issued to rebuild Jerusalem in Daniel 9:25-26? The decree to rebuild Jerusalem was proclaimed by King Artaxerxes of Persia to Ezra in 458 BC and Jesus’ ministry commenced, factoring in calendar changes, 483 years later.
Jesus said, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me”
– Luke 24:44
