Seeking Healing, Seeking God, Saved and Healed – Sozo
Smith Wigglesworth (1859-1947) was used mightily in signs and wonders. His theology on healing was: “There is healing through the blood of Christ and deliverance for every captive. God never intended His children to live in misery because of some affliction that comes directly from the Devil. A perfect atonement was made at Calvary. I believe that Jesus bore my sins, and I am free from them all. I am justified from all things if I dare to believe. He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sickness; and if I dare believe, I can be healed.”
If you confess with your mouth…the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved
– Romans 10:9.
The English word ‘saved’ comes from the Greek word ‘Sozo,’ meaning ‘healed’ – healed spiritually and healed physically. Healing evangelist T. L. Osborn (1923-2013) wrote: ‘Healed in body and healed in soul, or saved from sin and saved from sickness. It is translated, ‘heal, preserve, save, and make whole.’ … ‘Healing in the Bible is spiritual as well as physical. Disease manifests itself in the physical, but its roots are in the spiritual.’
Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree…by whose stripes you were healed
– 1 Peter 2:24.
Any God-fearing Christian can pray for healing for themselves or others, whilst some have ‘gifts of healings,’ or ‘the working of miracles’ as part of the nine gifts of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:4-11, 28, 30). Another gift is ‘faith’ (v9), and whilst a Christian may not have the other two previously mentioned gifts, faith may rise up in them and they may see the person healed instantly or progressively. On other occasions, a word of ‘wisdom’ or ‘knowledge’ (v8), may be spoken which is the key to the person’s healing. It may reveal why the person is sick (an underlying issues) or how they can receive their healing. Some issues are demonic in nature or a person needs inner healing of their soul or spirit to receive an outer healing, as mind and body are interconnected.
He was wounded for our transgressions…by His stripes we are healed…. It pleased the Lord to bruise Him…He bore the sins of many…
– Isaiah 53:5, 10, 12.
Jehovah-Tsidkenu is the redemptive name of God that reveals God’s redemptive provision for the soul (conversion). ‘The Lord our Righteousness’
– Jeremiah 23:6
We can also ask the elders within our church to pray for us and anoint us with oil as a step of faith, as we confess our sins (James 5:14-16). Partaking of the Lord’s Supper (Communion) in an unworthy manner can lead to sickness or death – conversely, if we eat it in a worthy manner we can ask God for our healing or to keep us in good health. The bread and the wine (or whatever elements your church uses) are symbolic of the body and blood of Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 11:23-31), which was broken and poured out for us.
Jehovah-Rapha is the redemptive name of God that reveals God’s redemptive provision for the body (healing). ‘I am the Lord that heals you’
– Exodus 15:26
Why Jesus Healed People
To demonstrate that the Kingdom of God had arrived and to reveal the glory of God as a sign and testimony. To demonstrate His compassion and mercy. To declare that He was the One promised by the Father. It bore witness to the Truth of Jesus Christ and the claims He made about Himself. To bring people to repentance and to demonstrate that the Gospel is for all nations, Jews as well as Gentiles.
