Five Reasons Why Scientists Say Believing in God Makes Sense
The mystery of intelligent life on earth has long captivated scientists and philosophers alike. The complexity and diversity of life on our planet suggest that some higher intelligence may have been involved in its founding.
The intricate and finely-tuned mechanisms of our universe also point towards the possibility of a Divine Creator. While scientific debates continue to rage over whether life on earth arose through natural processes or through intervention, the question of whether there is a Creator remains a fascinating and deeply compelling mystery. Today, we will consider five reasons why believing in God is scientifically viable.
- The complexity of the universe
- The mystery of life on earth
- The fine-tuned universe
- The riddle of consciousness
- The universal moral code
The complexity of the universe is one reason why believing in God is viable. This complexity is seen in everything from the smallest particles to the largest galaxies. It is unlikely that the complex order in the universe happened by chance and it suggests the existence of an intelligent Creator.
The existence of life on earth is another reason. Life is a complex system of interactions and the odds of all the necessary variables lining up to create life are slim. The complexity of life suggests the existence of an imaginative architect of life.
The fine-tuned universe: The universe has a specific set of laws that allow life to exist. If any of these laws were different, life would not exist. The fine-tuning of the universe advocates the existence of a Divine Mind.
I form the light and create darkness, I make peace and create calamity; I, the Lord, do all these things
– Isaiah 45:7
Consciousness is another enigma at the heart of life. Consciousness is a mystery that scientists still do not understand. How do we have the ability to perceive the world? How do we have the ability to reason and make decisions? Rats don’t need our level of intelligence to survive, so why do humans? Nuclear weapons suggest those with a greater intelligence possess a greater risk to themselves and the planet. The existence of consciousness advances confidence in the existence of a Super-Being beyond our understanding.
Finally, the existence of a moral code is another reason why believing in God is viable. Humans have a universal sense of right and wrong, which suggests there is a universal moral code wired into us. This moral code suggests the existence of a Rational Architect who has set moral standards for humans.
