Rees Howells reached the pinnacle of his life of intercession during World War II, when God transformed world events through prevailing prayer. ‘Praying through’ with Rees, was his son, Samuel Rees Howells. Nearing his death in 1950, Rees Howells turned to Samuel and said, “Whatever you do, stand and maintain these intercessions.” For the next fifty plus years, Samuel was faithful to this commission as he developed as an intercessor and man of faith.

As the new director of the Bible College of Wales, Samuel led more than one hundred intercessors who had been trained under Rees Howells,
to intercede whenever gospel liberty was threatened. Beginning with prayer for revival around the world, especially in China, Samuel’s
intercessory battles led him to bind the strong man during the Korean War to the Cuban Missile Crisis and from the Six-Day War to
the fall of the Berlin Wall.

time of Rees Howells, this biography remains as a historical record of the life of a great man of God,

Samuel Rees Howells
Rees Howells died on the evening of the 13th February 1950 and the burden of leadership was carried on by his son, Samuel Howells.
Between 1950 and 2004, Samuel Howells was led into a deep and costly path of intercession. He led the College to pray
through and intercede for many crises. There were many great prayer battles and their intercessions changed world events.

Richard Maton
Richard A. Maton, author of Samuel, Son and Successor of Rees Howells, was born in 1932. He worked under Samuel Howells' ministry
for forty-seven years and provides us with a firsthand account of Samuel’s life and the inner workings of BCW, with its staff
and friends. Richard was converted under the preaching of Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones and was called to the Bible College of Wales
in 1956 after hearing Leonard Ravenhill preaching at BCW. He has served in various roles as teacher (Emmanuel Grammar School),
lecturer, dean, trustee and Principal of the College and worked closely alongside Samuel for more than twenty years.

One of the GREAT needs in China is for Bibles. The Word of God in simplified Chinese, a full Bible inside China costs just £1.50 ($2.40) each at
retail price but are tricky to obtain. China is home to the world’s largest printing Press, though the vest majority of Bibles are for export
and the brethren inside China (especially House Church members) struggle to get the quantities they need. This is often from 100 to 100,000s
per House Church and they have a very good network of ministry and outreach, within China and beyond, especially along the old Silk Road
(between China and the Mediterranean) which encompasses the 10/40 window, of the least evangelised peoples of the world. House Churches are
unregistered churches, often so because they cannot register, paperwork is too complex, they get fobbed off, or because the believers refuse
to compromise and to be told what they can and cannot preach on.
