The Great Commission

God has always been interested in mankind and longs to have a relationship with everyone. The very last words of Jesus Christ were, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15)

Jesus was thinking of other people, not about Himself. For His whole thirty-three years on earth, He looked to do the will of the Father and loved not His life to the death.

As the Proverbs declare: ‘As cold water to a weary soul, so is good news from a far country’ (Proverbs 25:25). The Great Commission is not an option to be considered, but a command to be obeyed. We will not only be judged by what we said and did in this life, but also by what we did not say and did not do! We are called to take up our cross daily, to deny ourselves and to follow the Master.

Jesus was fully surrendered to the will of His Father and so was able to do mighty exploits in His name. The disciples surrendered themselves to God and in Jesus’ name went on to turn the world upside down as they participated in evangelism, short-term missions, teaching and discipleship, as they ministered in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Often hard and painful decisions will have to be made if you want God’s best for your life. You need to fully surrender your life to God (Romans 12:1, Galatians 2:20 and 2 Corinthians 5:15) and allow Him to dictate to you what you should be doing with your life. Life is not a tennis match, but one thing is certain, the ball is in your court.

You may not be called to the mission field, but you may be the evangelist or missionary in your place of work, because you have the ability to reach people who perhaps nobody else can. That is being part of the Great Commission, to do your bit for the Kingdom of God, so that you can bear fruit that will remain, for His glory (John 15:1-11). Give yourself unreservedly to God, seek His will and be part of the exciting Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20).
