4. Depression
Depression – a sad, heavy “down” feeling when we realise our loss. It comes out in many ways – we are all different. You may cry, withdraw, lose interest in life, stop eating, overeat, sleep all day, not sleep at all, get busy and active or lie around all day.
Depression needs to be talked out even with tears, rather than holding it in, taking it out on others or covering it up.
Take a look at The Book. This is what a man called Job once said. He had lost everything – his home, his great wealth, his family and his health. His friends tried to comfort him but weren’t much good at it. Job was very good at writing down how he felt about things. He didn’t keep them to himself.
“For sighing comes to me instead of food; my groans pour out like water.
What I feared has come upon me; what I dreaded has happened to me.” Job 3:24 - 26.
Job reached the end of his tether. His faith in God was a real help and eventually got him through.
This sad feeling may last for a year or more. What can you do? You have to wait it out. In the meantime, eat well, get enough sleep, be kind to yourself and keep talking about it.
